Catherine M. Allchin has more than 30 years of professional experience in strategic communications and writing. In her freelance-writing career, she explored food, travel, health, business, and science. She is currently the author of Some Nerve, a field guide for sensitive nervous systems in a loud world. Her earlier freelance work remains collected here by subject.

Born in Portland, Oregon, she graduated from Brown University and spent ten years in public relations and public affairs. Later she wrote for publications including The New York Times, The Seattle Times, and Science Magazine. Catherine has also volunteered at many schools and nonprofits, advising on communications and strategic planning. Currently she serves on the Leadership Council at Conservation International. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, gardening, and hiking. She and her husband are dedicated to supporting marine conservation and education.
